SHRIVENHAM manager Gareth Davies says his team are heading to Hellenic Premier league leaders Westfields with the sole mindset of ending their opposition’s undefeated record this season.

Westfields have played 21 games – winning 17 and drawing four without defeat – while Shrivenham are 22 points back in fifth having only won two of their previous five.

But an encouraging result last weekend against fellow promotion chasers Burnham has helped Davies’ men to rediscover some confidence as they travel to Herefordshire.

Westfields last dropped points three games ago, drawing away at Windsor, and the Shrivenham manager believes his side can force their opponents to hand over three more on Saturday.

He said: “When you are top of the league, you’re there to be shot at aren’t you?

“Everybody wants to be the first team to claim their scalp – they beat us at home and there’s no doubt they are a very good side.

“You can see why they are top of the league, but it’s case of the old cliché – we can’t worry about what they’re doing, we’ve got to focus on what we’re doing.

“Everything has got to be right for us and we’ve got to be spot on.

“But the longer their run goes on, the more attention is drawn to it.

“They’ll want to keep it, and we want to take it away.”

While some teams may choose to operate with a low block and hit their hosts on the counter in order to steal a result, Davies revealed his men will not change their usual approach at Allpay Park.

Far from going out and all-out attacking from the first whistle, Davies said Shrivenham will have to be smart at both ends of the pitch and show some of the characteristics that were on display in the 2-0 victory over Burnham.

Davies said: “We’ll go there and show what we’re capable of.

“Last Saturday, we got a very good result because Burnham are a very good side – they will beat a lot of teams this season.

“We were very resolute, and we did the horrible bits really well, and we’ll have to do that again on Saturday.

“It doesn’t matter whether we’re playing top or bottom of the league, we won’t change what we do.

“We have a philosophy and we want to win every game – against Westfields, it will be no different.”

Elsewhere, Fairford Town host Flackwell Heath while Royal Wootton Bassett Town travel to Brimscombe and Thrupp.
