THE father of missing Trowbridge man Ben Garland said today he is now "just waiting" for news of his son.

Mark Garland says he is waiting for Spanish police to come back to him after he and his son Jake gave DNA samples over the weekend.

Mr Garland, 54, of Frome Road, Trowbridge, said: “We’re now just waiting for news.”

On Saturday, Mr Garland found a fake Tag Heuer watch belonging Ben in a rock pool between boulders on the shoreline of the Spanish island of Ibiza.

The discovery raised further fears that Spanish police will now find the body of the missing boat crew man, who worked on a 47-feet luxury superyacht.

It is feared that Mr Garland, 24, was swept away by waves after going to the coast to video the sea for Instagram posts.

He failed to return from a motorbike ride as Storm Gloria hit the island on Tuesday, January 21.

The alert was raised by the boat’s captain who called the emergency services when Mr Garland did not return. His bike was found in Cala Portinatx.

His father posted on Facebook that he had gone out looking for his son's helmet and mobile phone when he found the watch.

Mr Garland said: "I can confirm it is Ben's watch. It was one of a collection that was passed on to him by his Uncle Carl Wharton.

Mr Garland said he had gone to the spot where his son made his last Instagram video to search for his belongings.

“I saw something shining in a rock pool and we pulled it out. Apart from a few scratches on the face, it still works perfectly fine.”

On Saturday, Spanish police were still out searching the area with helicopters, divers and boats.

Mr Garland also posted that he and his son Jake Garland had been to the police station to provide DNA samples.

He thanked all the people supporting the family in their search and said the Spanish police had been “absolutely amazing".

“The family just can’t thank them enough. They have never once given up on us,” he said.

Mr Garland also thanked friends, family and well-wishers who have contributed to a justgiving appeal which has now raised £5,905.

"It has taken the pressure off the family and means so much to us.”

Mr Garland said that Ben’s uncle Trevor Butler and his "good friend" Lee Goodchild had also arrived in Ibiza to support him.

Mr Garland added: “That brings the total to 13 of Ben’s friends and family over here now supporting me. Thank you all very much. Keep praying for Ben.”
