IT was a sell out first night for the cast of SIX at Bath Theatre Royal as crowds flocked to see the hit musical straight off the West End.

A hit in the West End, on its UK tour, at Sydney Opera House, in Chicago and Boston, and transferring to Broadway this February, this multi Olivier Award-nominated new musical has become the show everyone is losing their head over.

SIX is a re-telling of the stories of Henry VIII’s six wives, as the ladies in the King’s life take to the stage to put the history books straight.

Starting with the familiar rhyme Divorced, Beheaded Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived, the queens grab the mic and sing out in a show that had the energy and frenzy of a music concert.

It’s the retelling that we never knew we needed and the influence of Queens of the stage like Beyonce, Rihanna and Alicia Keys is clear.

The show was created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, two Cambridge University history graduates who bonded over their love of theatre while studying.

The show was voted top Musical of the Decade by WhatsOnStage followers, beating Hamilton to the coveted top spot. And I can see why, it was the best show that I have seen in a long time because of the dynamic performers, the talents of the live band supporting them, the comedy and the music.

If you get the opportunity to see this whirlwind of a show it will have you laughing, crying and wishing that all history, or HerStory lessons could be like this.

SIX is at the Theatre Royal until Sunday. Advance tickets have sold out. For evening performances, a strictly limited number of standby seats are available on the day.Demand is expected to be very high. Box Office: 01225 448844 or visit theatreroyal.org.uk-
