Jackie Ellis and Riley Ellis both finished as runners up in separate tournaments in different countries on the same day

Jackie Ellis, who hails from the village of Clyffe Pypard near Royal Wootton Bassett, reached the final of the Seniors event on the World Women’s Snooker tour in Belgium.

And Riley Ellis was one victory away from a first winner’s trophy of the season on the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour in Bournemouth.

Jackie was delighted with the way she progressed through the over-40’s event during the Belgian Open at The Trickshot, Bruges.

The world number 18 came back from 1-0 down to record a 2-1 success over 70-year-old Nicole Derycke, who works behind the bar at the club.

And she then overcame Annamaria Wilkins (Hungary) in a high-pressure third-frame decider.

After a four-hour wait, the 53-year-old lost 2-0 to Caty Dehaene (Belgium).

Jackie, who is now third in the Seniors rankings, said: “I was really chuffed to hold it together in the semi-final.”

It was her third Seniors runner-up trophy since she made her debut on the world stage in 2017.

Earlier, in the main competition, Jackie achieved her goal of not finishing last in her five-strong round-robin group by beating England's Emma Brown 2-1.

She said: “It was a really tough group but my goal was not to be bottom.”

Meanwhile, 225 miles away, Riley moved up to fourth place on the Cuestars rankings after reaching his second final of the season at Greenbaize Snooker Club.

The 15-year-old survived a play-off against John Donovan (London) for one of the two best third positions in the round-robin group stages.

He then dispatched Samuel Laxton (Portsmouth) and Elliott Johnson (London) in the knockout, both by 2-0 scorelines, before losing 2-0 to runaway rankings leader Lee Whaley (London).
