PUPILS from Melksham Oaks school are victorious in the Youth Speaks Final competition in Cheddar.
The senior team were sixth form pupils Thomas Curtin, Maddy Heal, and Josh Green who came first in their category. The intermediate team were Ewan Garioch, Cally Parfitt, and Robert McGrane, aged 13 and 14, who came second in their category.
Team opposer of the motion, Thomas Curtin said: “I’m so proud of my fellow team members and how far we have come.”
The senior team are taking part in the national final on March 21.
Teacher of English Alex Bound, said: “The topic was on Brexit and whether or not we should align with EU legislation now we have left the EU.
“It's student-led so they debate between themselves and take questions from the audience.
“They were fantastic and went from strength to strength. Sixth formers gave a flawless performance. They have all spent their lunch times and after school working on this. Their hard work is a testament to the school.”
