CLIMATE Friendly Bradford on Avon’s zero waste group are organising another of their popular Repair Cafés at The Hub in Church Street.

Volunteer repairers for the café come from the zero waste group and the local branch of tools from Self Reliance, a charity which accepts donations of good quality hand tools.

Local pop-up shop Sunflower Studios will be at the Repair Café to demonstrate how to upcycle furniture, there’ll be tips on how to make the things we buy last and plenty of tea and cake.

This time the Repair Café is being held to raise funds for Orchid, a charity whose purpose is to save men’s lives from male cancer through pioneering research and promoting awareness. There’ll be a raffle and donations.

This will take place on March 14 from 10am until 12pm.

Repair Café’s started in Holland in response to our throw away society, encouraging us to fix something before simply replacing it, and to maintain repair skills.

Broken items can often be replaced for not much more than it costs to fix them but this means we are throwing away the resources used to make the item, the energy used to make it and as there is no ‘away’ we have to find somewhere to put it. In Wiltshire it costs around £5 million to send our rubbish to landfill - approximately 15 per cent of our rubbish.

There’ll be volunteer menders who can help with general repairs, fix small household electrical items, sewing repairs and bike repairs (for bike repairs please book in advance by emailing jessicat@wiltshirewildlife.org)
