AS long as Swindon Town’s destiny remains in their own hands Paul Caddis has few worries.

Although Town lost top spot in League Two on goal difference to Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, they boast a game in hand and a four-point buffer back to fourth place.

While they maintain that advantage, Caddis says the formula is simple as Swindon look first to seal promotion and then attempt to take the title for themselves.

“That’s all you want, to decide your own destiny,” said the Scottish full-back. “We hear all the noise about teams outside, but we just need to keep looking after ourselves.

“It’s simple, the mathematics are there; if we win games of football we’ll win the league.

“But at the same time you don’t have any divine right to win games of football.

“You’ve got to work hard, stick to a gameplan and I think we’ll be all right.”

Defeat to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday was Swindon’s first in five games and brought an end to a three-match winning stretch.

Despite the loss, there was no kneejerk reaction from Caddis post-match.

He said: “The overall picture is that we’re joint top of the league with a game in hand and ten games to go. Say no more really.

“There’s no point getting too down after losing a game of football.

“We might lose another game of football this year, that’s what happens. We just need to win more than we lose.”

Maintaining a level head throughout the peaks and troughs of a lengthy campaign is vital for Caddis, who says there will be ample time to celebrate come the end of the season.

He added: “I’m quite laid back. It can sometimes come across as you don’t care but it’s the complete opposite of that.

“You can’t be too emotional about a game of football. I don’t get too high when we’re winning, I don’t get too low when we lose.

“There’s time to be high at the end of the season if we get promoted, first and foremost, and win the league; then we’ll enjoy it.”
