A PIEMAKER in Trowbridge has received an award at the 2020 British Pie Awards.
Manager Alex Joll, aged 53, of the Free Range Pies cafe at the old Town Hall on Market Street, won bronze in the fish category.
He said: "We enter most years but this year we won in the fish pie category.
"It is an individual wild fish pie with pastry all around and on top. It's really great because we rebranded this year.
Held at the Rural Capital of Food in Melton Mowbray, this year’s British Pie Awards saw 848 pies entered from 160 professional pie bakers, butchers and chefs from around the country.
After an extensive judging process on each pie’s appearance, taste and skills by 140 experts, the pies received their awards on March 6. The judging and awards ceremony took place in St Mary’s Church in Melton Mowbray.
Mr Joll added: "We do lots of pie and mash at weddings so we convert horse boxes which is really popular and we're booking solidly."
People can taste the prize-winning pie at the cafe.
