Household recycle centres (HRC) opened today with massive queues within the first hour as over a hundred cars waited to unload their rubbish across Wiltshire.

Today (Monday, May 18) nine of the 10 HRCs in Wiltshire have opened for the first time in weeks as lockdown restrictions are eased.

On Twitter, the council posted that people were queuing from 8am in Trowbridge to use the HRC and that the line in Purton was as long as an hour and a half.

The council has employed a postcode entry system with traffic marshalls posted to help handle the queues.

A council spokesman said: “People will only be allowed entry to visit Wiltshire’s HRCs on the days that correspond to the first part of their postcode.

“For example, if your postcode starts in BA12, you can only visit the sites on Monday 18 May, Wednesday 20 May, and so on, as detailed in the table on our website.

“You can visit any Wiltshire site you choose, so while you are limited by the days you can attend, you can visit any Wiltshire HRC on these days.”

Residents may be asked to provide a proof of address in order to use HRCs, the council said.
