RETIRED soldier Wayne Cherry is determined that those who continued to fight in the Far East at the end of the Second World War will not be forgotten.

Mr Cherry is to walk 75 miles around Devizes in a week in the lead up to the 75th anniversary of VJ day on August 15.

He said: “I will be raising money for SSAFA but I also want people to remember that after VE day our military was still fighting for months longer before Japan surrendered.”

He will start his walk on Friday at 10am from outside Wadworths in New Park Street and do laps of the town.

He will walk 10 miles a day from 10am to 1pm aiming to cover just over 10 miles a day until August 14. He hopes people will join him on the circuits.

Mr Cherry, who is a member of Seend Royal British Legion and lives in Rowde, is no stranger to fundraising. In 2018 he completed 100 days of remembrance for the fallen from the First World War.
