A second-half strike from Jack Payne earned Swindon Town a 1-1 draw in this afternoon’s friendly with Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
The summer signing from Lincoln City had plenty of work to do when he collected the ball inside the City area in the 62nd minute but found room to turn and lift a delightful shot over keeper Dan Bentley and into the far corner of the net.
The Championship outfit had taken a 1-0 lead on 22 minutes when Andi Weimann’s fierce low shot found its way into the net despite the efforts of Anthony Grant on the line.
Manchester United youngster Matej Kovar started between the sticks for the visitors after signing a season-long loan deal yesterday.
"It was a really good performance," boss Richie Wellens told BBC Radio Wiltshire.
"We played well and created chances and probably should have won the game."
