Swindon Supermarine continued their pre-season campaign with a simple 3-0 victory over Stratford Town at the Webbswood Stadium

With two weeks to go before the new season starts, Marine have slowly built up their fitness and tactical play culminating in this best performance of their pre-season so far.

Stratford Town, whose chairman is former Swindon Town owner Jed McCrory, had been doing well in their warm-up games prior to this but came crashing down to earth in Wiltshire.

Marine dominated the game from start to finish, excelling in every area of the pitch.

Harry Williams fired them ahead after just 11 minutes, going around Stratford keeper Ty Belford, another ex Robins player, to net.

Skipper Matt Liddiard, playing in a midfield role, was unlucky not to double the scoreline when his header struck the bar soon after.

Marine’s strong start was reflected in the scoreline when Liddiard made no mistake at the second time of asking – heading home from a Jamie Edge in-swinging free-kick.

Last campaign’s top scorer Conor McDonagh had the ball in the net at the start of the second half for Supermarine, but it was offside.

However, it didn’t take long for McDonagh to notch a legitimate goal as in the 54th minute Brad Hooper played him in to finish empatically into the top left corner for Marine’s third of the match.

This lead allowed the hosts to blood some of their substitutes in the remaining half hour including a return after injury for Henry Spalding.

Swindon Supermarine comfortably held on to the lead for the rest of the match – Jake Lee coming the closest to adding a fourth when his header struck the post with Martin Horsell only really called into action once in the Marine goal – producing a fine double save.
