A MAN is his 20s was killed in a crash near Pewsey on Saturday night, when a Peugeot 106 ended up in a hedge.

A second man of about the same age has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink-driving.

Three people were in the car when it was travelling along Alton Road, a single track road between the villages of Alton Barnes and Wilcot, late on Saturday evening.

Emergency services were called shortly before 11.30pm following a report that the Peugeot 106 had been involved in a collision.

The man who died was a passenger in the car. Another man and a woman suffered injuries which were said to be 'not serious'

Police later said: "For reasons currently unknown, the vehicle appears to have lost control heading from Alton Barnes towards Wilcot village, before coming to rest in a hedgerow.

"A passenger in the vehicle, a local man in his 20s, sadly died at the scene. His family has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

"Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to carry out enquiries and the road remained closed for several hours as a result.

"A local man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving. He was taken to Gablecross custody and has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue."

Police would like to hear from any witnesses to the crash or anyone who was driving in the area at around that time on Saturday and may have seen the Peugeot beforehand.

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote log number 432 of September 12.
