ADVER Sport assess the performances of the Swindon Town players following their 2-0 defeat to Blackpool in League One.

Matej Kovar – 5

Kovar was beaten far too easily at his near post twice, but responded well with a couple of excellent saves to deny further goals.

Paul Caddis – 6

Caddis defended stoutly enough for the most part, but any time the Scot was faced with a pacey winger, he looked in trouble.

Zeki Fryers – 7

Part of a centre-back pairing that looked comfortable and assured until the final 15 minutes. Won his headers and not much got past him.

Mathieu Baudry – 7

Another case of someone who played really well until the final 15 minutes. Returning from injury, he looked keen to avoid any further problems by sitting deep late on.

Rob Hunt – 5

CJ Hamilton twisted the full back in knots for both goals – something Wellens felt could and should have been avoided. A bad time to have a bad game with Dion Donohue due to sign next week.

Anthony Grant – 6

Not the midfield general’s best game, he was inconsistent in tackles and passing. Outshone by Matt Smith.

Matt Smith – 7

For the second week in a row, Smith edged Town’s best player award. His passing ability and composure make him a joy to watch.

Jonny Smith – 6

Started quite brightly, almost scoring early on, before being subbed due to breathing problems. Subbed.

Jack Payne – 5

Payne started aggressively but could not hold onto the ball or make an impression otherwise. Tried to get into pockets of space but had little effect before being subbed. Subbed.

Diallang Jaiyesimi – 7

Jaiyesimi has shown the step up in division will be no issue for him. Another encouraging performance deserved an assist at least. Subbed.

Tyler Smith – 6

Smith made a number of good runs into channels during the first half, but really should have opened the scoring from a header – nodding his header wide. Suffered from a real lack of service. Subbed.

SUBSTITUTES

Joel Grant – 6

Showed his potential at times, but the lack of match sharpness was clear to see as he took too long to make a decision on a number of occasions.

Hallam Hope – 6

Hope did give Town a different dimension in an attacking sense, but by the time he came on the game was almost over. Hit the post with 15 minutes to go that on another day would have launched a potential comeback.

Brett Pitman – 5

Pitman offered little following his introduction, instead preferring to wave his arms about when something went wrong. Another action-less cameo for the senior striker.
