ROB Dean headed in an 87th minute winner for Highworth Town on Saturday as John Fisher’s men beat Paulton Rovers 2-1 at the Save on Tyres Stadium in Southern League Division One South.

After being on the wrong end of a penalty shoot-out and two added-time defeats in 10 days, it was Highworth’s turn to benefit from a late goal as they secured their second league win of the season.

Paulton took the lead early on when a cross from Nuno Felix was converted by Ryan Gay in the 11th minute.

However, Highworth levelled just two minutes later when Paulton failed to clear a cross and Joe Selman fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Dean saw a header cleared off the line, and substitute Jordan Murray (on for the injured Selman) brought a decent save out of Paulton keeper Aaron Sainsbury prior to the interval.

The second half started with the home side on the front foot as Sainsbury again thwarted Murray and Dean saw another effort cleared off the line.

Goalkeeper Connor Johns - who was struggling with a leg injury - did well to deflect an effort wide with an out-stretched foot, while Paulton claims for a penalty for handball were waved away by the referee.

But just when it looked like both side’s would have to settle for a draw, a flowing Highworth move resulted in a late corner that Matty Grabe curled onto the head of Dean for the winner.

Highworth move up to seventh.
