SWINDON Supermarine moved up to fourth in the table after overcoming Chesham United 1-0 at the Meadow in the PitchingIn Southern League Premier Division South on Saturday.

In a tight first half in which Conor McDonagh struck the post, a good defensive display from Jake Lee, Louis Spalding, Michael Hopkins and skipper Matt Liddiard - assisted by keeper Martin Horsell - kept the hosts at bay with Marine finishing strongly at the end of the half.

Chesham started on the front foot in the second period until slowly Marine took control.

And just before the hour, the visitors got their reward as a smart move from Marine saw a Joe Shepherd cutback fall into the path of last season's top scorer McDonagh to side foot home comfortably for his third of the campaign.

Marine continued to frustrate their opponents until the end as Shepherd and Jamie Edge took control of the game late on.

Nerves were set jangling late on when a desperate appeal for a penalty came from Chesham, however nothing was given and Marine held on to claim their second away win of the campaign.

Lee Spalding's men face Dorchester Town next at the WebbsWood Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
