Forest complete KO Cup, last 16 line up

Premier division, Forest Community Centre completed the line-up for the final 16 of this season’s AM Print & Copy sponsored Knockout Cup following their 3-0 victory over first division Biddestone who as a first round loser will now partake in this year’s WG Parr Trophy which is sponsored by RP Clarke Sheds & Fencing.

After a goalless first half, Forest made the breakthrough thanks to Steve Badger. Badger added his second of the morning before Harry Brennard sealed the victory for Forest whose reward is a trip to FC Lacock in second round.

Sporting Box FC v Lion & Fiddle FC - Home Walkover

Sporting Box were due to host Lion & Fiddle in their first round encounter, but with Fiddlers withdrawing from the league prior to the start of the season, Sporting Box received a walkover into the next round where they welcome North Star Club to their Vallens Terrace ground.

Melksham & Semington miss out on top spot

AFC Melksham welcomed near neighbours Semington FC to The Queen Elizabeth Sports Field, Bowerhill, for what was the only Shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League, Premier division fixture of the weekend. A 1-1 draw left both teams rueing their missed opportunity to claim top spot in the table.

Jordan Kirk fired Melksham into a first half lead, which was cancelled by Dan Rimmer whose second half strike was enough to earn Semington a share of the spoils.

Lavis win top two battle

The top two sides in the Shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League, First division went head to head at Rusty Lane, Seend and it was leaders Lavis FC who clung on to the number 1 spot as they bounced back from last Sunday’s 9-2 extra time thumping at the hands of Bromham by defeating Sutton Benger 4-2 in a match that didn’t disappoint in the entertaining stakes.

As would have been expected, it was a tight affair between two teams who like to move the ball around and found it tough to break down the opposing defences which ultimately produced few shots of note other than a James Hernandez effort from 30 yards which hit the crossbar.

The game came to life on the 30 minute mark, Benger keeper Dan Hughes did well to keep out an initial effort for Lavis on for the ball to fall to Aaron Cockerill who smashed home brilliant half volley to give Lavis the lead. Matt Hall rose highest to head home a free kick to make it 2-0.

It was soon 3-0 as Jamie Hancock ghosted past two Benger defenders and at this stage Aaron Latchem’s men they appeared to be in total control, however that quickly changed as two goals inside 90 seconds from Ethan Jones who latched on to a delightful chipped pass from Matt Blackmore to volley home and James Weston who was on hand to tuck the ball home after Jones had blocked a Lavis clearance.

Benger would have wished that the half went on for a short while longer but the teams went in at the break with Lavis 3-2 ahead.

Benger chased and chased for the equaliser with Ethan Jones and Craig Askew coming close with some long range efforts but they were ultimately undone when Mark Maguire headed home the all-important fourth goal for Lavis to seal a hard fought victory.

Old Road FC 2 Chippenham Icons FC 8

Chippenham Icons travelled to Old Road FC for what was only their second league outing of the campaign. An 8-2 triumph for the Icons, saw them move into second spot, while the defeat for Old Road was their third of the season and leaves them at the wrong end of the table.

Fran Pizzey and Ollie Wells were on target for Old Road while Clinton Hartley top scored for Icons with a hat trick. Joey Hylands struck twice and a goal each for Adam O’Keefe, Alan Farnish and Rich Hudson made up the Icons tally.

Castle remain top after Athletic success

The Castle FC opened up their Shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League, Second division campaign with a thumping 12-2 victory away at Calne Athletic, so when the teams met in the return match it was little surprise that a 9-1 success for the Devizes based Castle took them to the top of the table.

Liam Hill and Matt Tilley scored 2 apiece, a goal each from Rory Collins, Matt Lever. Jacob Wrobel, Jamie Mullings and Joe Unsworth made up Castle’s tally.

Harrison Wicks replies for Athletic who will be pleased to have got their games with Castle out the way in the first month of the season.

Calne United FC 0 Steeple Ashton FC 2

Fresh from their shock knockout cup triumph over Sutton Benger last weekend, Steeple Ashton were on the road at Calne United who themselves went into the game on the back of a fine cup success away at Warminster Athletic. It was Ashton who picked up where they left off from with a 2-0 triumph that moves the villagers into a share of top spot.

David Raine may not have got his name on the score sheet for Ashton, but he was a major player in their latest success as his long throw set up Tom A’Court to head home his first half effort and it was from another throw that he found Aaron Burbidge who headed home to wrap up Ashton’s second league win.

Warminster Athletic FC 3 Misfits FC 2

Last season saw Warminster Athletic (formerly Wednesday Warriors) record two convincing victories over Chippenham based Misfits, looking to claim a hat trick of successes over Ben Thomas side, Athletic managed to do just that thanks to a 3-2 win.

Bradley Edwards and Aaron Knowles struck for Warminster in a first half that saw Sam Clarke and Archie Norcott reply for Misfits.

With all to play for in the second half it was the hosts who conjured up a winner, thanks to a second goal of the morning for Knowles who is proving to something of a find for Stuart Green’s team this season

Success for CDSFL in Sunday Cup

Chippenham & District League sides had a great day in the Preliminary round of this season’s Wiltshire Sunday Cup. From the five matches that weren’t an all CDSFL affair, the league boasted success in those 5 games.

FC Pilot were the biggest winners of the day with a thumping 12-2 success over Swindon League outfit Ridgeway Rovers. Pilot made a bright start to the game and were 2-0 up courtesy of a Rhys Tallmash double. Slack defending by Pilot allowed Rovers to get back on level terms before Tom Blackman got Pilot back ahead prior to half time.

If the first half was nip and tuck, the second half was a one-sided affair with the hosts netting 9 unanswered goals. Goal machine Tallmash bagged himself a double hat trick to take his tally for the game to 8. Manager, Graham Griffiths grabbed himself a goal before Tom Blackman added a couple more to claim his second hat trick in 4 games for the Bowerhill outfit, who could have made it an unlucky 13 for Rovers, had keeper Gary Clements not blasted a penalty high over the bar.

Corsham Wildcats 3 Highworth Town (Sunday) 1

Corsham Wildcats progressed to the next round of the Sunday cup with a comfortable 3-1 win over Swindon first division league side Highworth Town (Sunday).

Aaron Ward-Baptiste and Lewis McCarron gave Wildcats a 2-0 interval lead and although Highworth netted in the second period the goal was just a consolation as a Darrin Moss goal sealed the Wildcats success.

FC Devizes United 4 Fox & Hounds (Warminster) 3

The all-Chippenham league third division contest between FC Devizes United and Fox & Hounds (Warminster) resulted in a seven goal thriller that United edged 4-3.

In a thrilling first half a Jayson Stokes double along with a Beau Blakeman effort for Fox & Hounds cancelled out a Daniel Skinner brace and Jamie Walters strike for United.

The second half saw things settle down with the contest being settled by a second of the morning for United’s Walters whose goal was enough to secure his team a 4-3 win and their place in the first round proper.

FC Lacock 5 147SC FC 1

Swindon Sunday league side 147SC FC saw their Sunday cup dreams end at the first hurdle following their 5-1 loss away at FC Lacock who after reaching the quarter-finals of the competition last term will be looking to go further this season.

Dan King, Aaron Masson, Rory Davis and an Adan Stevenson double made up the villagers tally.

Kingfisher FC 2 Pack Horse FC 6

Pack Horse came out on top from their Sunday Cup clash with local Chippenham based rivals Kingfisher FC.

Goals from Josh Mardle and Jack Williamson had given Pack Horse a 2-0 lead. An exquisite free kick from Luke Todd was headed home by Paul Mannings to reduce the deficit for Kingfisher only for Adam Shipman to reclaim a 2 goal cushion for the visitors prior to the break.

A second for both Williamson and Mardle along with a Liam Wright effort made it 6-1 before Mannings set up Todd Richardson for Kingfisher’s second of the morning.

North Star Club FC 4 Purton Redhouse 4 – North Star won 5-4 on penalties

North Star Club led 3-1 and 4-3 at home to Swindon league side Purton Redhouse before almost throwing the tie away by letting the visitors to Beversbrook to grab a late equaliser to take the game to penalties where Star won the shoot-out 5-4.

2-1 up half time thanks to a Oli Parfitt double, the hosts should have been coasting when he completed his hat trick to make it 3-1. Redhouse rallied to restore parity at 3-3 only for Aaron Clegg to edge Star ahead one more. Back came Redhouse with a late equaliser to take the contest straight to penalties where successful kicks from Clegg, Pete Thornton, Richard Sheffield, Matty Smart and Dean Fry got the hosts over the line.

Royal Oak FC 2 Spartak Rudloe 3

Second division, Spartak Rudloe claim what will be a moral boosting 3-2 victory over a Royal Oak side who twice last term they conceded the fixture to, due to a lack of players.

It may only be the Sunday Cup, and they may not progress any further than the first round proper, but Spartak will be cock-a-hoop after their victory especially as they trailed 2-1 at the break.

Chris O’Donovan got the opener for Royal Oak and Cameron Lee put them 2-1 ahead after Joe Holland had got Spartak back on level terms.

Will Matthews restored parity for Spartak and Andy Woods fired home what proved to be the winner.

Sporting Box FC 0 Bremhill ViewFC 3

The final all Chippenham league encounter of the Sunday cup saw Sporting Box host First Division sable mates Bremhill View and it was the latter who progress to the next round thanks to a 3-0 triumph.

Tom Stratton swept home a Tom Sigee free kick to give Bremhill their first half advantage. A second from Stratton doubled Bremhill’s lead before a bullet header from Luke Minnis put the contest out of reach of the hosts.

Swindon Rovers 0 Bath Road FC 5

Bath Road FC were the only side from the league who had to venture up the M4 to face Swindon league opposition and the journey back home was an enjoyable one for Luke Jones side who after goalless first half away at Swindon Rovers emerged 5-0 victors.

Substitute, Carl Summers broke the deadlock for Bath Road when he made it 1-0 with his touch after coming off the bench, Jack Sanderson with two, Nick Mills and Tyler Smith finished things off with a goal at the death.
