FC ABBEY Meads’ Megan Young has been selected to join Women’s Premier League South side Oxford United’s U16 RTC shadow squad.

Oxford – who compete in the second tier of football, just below the Women’s Super League – picked Young to join their regional talent centre where she will benefit from top-quality academy coaching alongside her continued spell as captain of Abbey Meads U15 girls.

The RTC squad is designed to bridge the gap from youth football to playing for the club’s senior Premier League side, allowing the best local footballers to progress and develop along a legitimate pathway into the professional game.

Abbey Meads U15 girls manager, Peter Beasley, said: “Megan is into her third season with us and has come on leaps and bounds while always putting 100% into training and matches.

“Megan really deserves this opportunity, and she is testament to what you can achieve when you put your mind to it.

“Since joining us, she has played on the wing before moving inside, to now playing as one of the league’s most dangerous strikers through practicing and training daily at home.

“Megan encapsulates exactly how to push yourself and progress by always looking to learn through questioning and practice.

“As a club, we push all of our players to do the best they can and with women’s football growing at the club, we will work with any player who wishes to play for fun or to grow and develop.”
