Artists from across Chippenham will soon feature in an online advent calendar, starting on 1 December, and a town trail starting on Saturday 5 December.

A total of 24 pieces of artwork will be featured.

To take part, the community were invited by the town council to capture what the joy of Christmas means to them.

Chippenham Mayor, Councillor Teresa Hutton, said: “We have received a fantastic variety of entries from families and individuals sharing with us what Christmas means to our community. Their artwork will bring joy to many in Chippenham with our advent calendar and trail throughout December.”

24 designs will be included in a virtual advent calendar with a new image being shared on Chippenham Town Council’s social media each day, produced in partnership with a computing student from Wiltshire College and University Centre.

The 24 designs will also form a trail in windows through the town from 5 December to 3 January, with the opportunity to vote for a Community Choice design. This design will be announced on Twelfth Night, Tuesday 5 January, and receive a set of art materials. A map of the window trail and details of how to vote will be available from Chippenham Town Council’s website.

All artworks entered into The Joy of Christmas will be made into tree decorations for the entrants to keep by local resin artist Paige Alexander.

The full collection of artwork will also be shared as an online exhibition.
