ADVER Sport assess the performances of the Swindon Town players following their derby-day success over Oxford United on Saturday.

Matej Kovar: 7

Three really good saves in the first half preceded some confident gathers in the second. Not much Kovar could have done about the goal on what was a good day for the young stopper.

Akin Odimayo: 7

Odimayo once again dealt with a mid-game positional change admirably, and although he wasn’t always tidy, he was often effective and played a part in Town’s winner.

Mathieu Baudry: 5

Oxford’s first goal came as the ball went between both Baudry and Grounds so the positioning could have been better. Subbed midway through the first half due to a hamstring issue. Subbed.

Jonathan Grounds: 7

Perhaps fortunate to have started given recent form, but the experienced defender was very good for the most part. See above for the goal, but he blocked, tackled and headed away brilliantly.

Dion Donohue: 7

The left-back was tidy once again, he showed good feet to get out of a few tricky spots and improved as the game went on – much like his team.

Anthony Grant: 7

Grant started out slowly but was much better after taking over the captain’s armband. His domination in midfield helped turn the tide for Swindon. Booked.

Paul Caddis: 7

The defender-turned-midfielder endured a tough start after giving the ball away which lead to Oxford’s goal, but he didn’t let the mistake affect him and came back to help Grant out really well in the middle.

Matt Smith: 7

His early execution of passes were not up to his usual high standard, but Smith showed what character he has to take the game by the scruff of the neck and drive Town on in the second half.

Joel Grant: 6

Grant looked lively and delivered a couple of inviting crosses during his time on the pitch. Taken off due to an injury before half-time. Subbed.

Jordan Stevens: 6

Stevens ran at his man a bit more than he has done lately – a recent criticism of mine – and delivered a couple of dangerous crosses before being replaced by Jaiyesimi. Subbed.

Tyler Smith: 8

The poor kid was made to run from pillar to post before the introduction of Tom Broadbent, but got his rewards when he won the game for Town in added time. He swore to me that he got the final touch, so I believe him. Booked.

SUBSTITUTES:

Rob Hunt: 7

That’s as well as I’ve seen Hunt play all season. He was strong, made good decisions on the ball and defended stoutly when he had to.

Jack Payne: 7

The same goes for Payne in terms of performance. He showed real strength and a desire to help Town turn things around after being sent on just before the break.

Diallang Jaiyesimi: 7

Jaiyesimi showed Town exactly what they’d been missing while he’s been out injured by running at his man and delivering a handful of dangerous crosses time after time.

Tom Broadbent: 9

Fan favourite Broadbent delivered one of the most astounding substitute performances I’ve ever seen. Asked to play up front, despite being a centre-back, Broadbent played like a natural number nine at times. He scored the equaliser by showing excellent technique before arguably scoring the winner, or at least setting it up for Tyler Smith.
