SWINDON Town midfielder Diallang Jaiyesimi insists there was no hangover from the derby-day victory over Oxford United at the weekend after John Sheridan’s men threw away a 2-0 lead to go down 4-2 at Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night.

Town nudged ahead during a tight first half through Anthony Grant before going two goals ahead, courtesy of Tyler Smith, while being far from their scintillating best at Gresty Road.

An instant Crewe reply halved the deficit, and a barrage of host pressure early in the second half saw the game flipped on its head in worryingly quick time.

Jaiyesimi – who secured the assist for Town’s second goal – felt the visitors had the better of the first half, but the half-time break allowed Crewe to calibrate and come out for the second half a different side.

He said: “I don’t think there was a hangover from Oxford.

“You could see from the first half against Crewe, we dominated, but in the second half they played their game a bit more.

“So I think it is a bit unfair to say there was any kind of hangover from the Oxford game.

“It was important we passed on information to the other players because Crewe did move around a lot.

“In the flow of the game, it’s difficult to talk to each other properly. But I don’t think there was any kind of miscommunication, I just think they got the better of us quite a few times.

“We need to do better in those situations and react more sharply.”

Defeat in midweek means that Swindon have now failed to chain consecutive results together – good or bad – in any of their last eight games.

Jaiyesimi – who was making his first start since October 17 against Sunderland – believes Swindon are a better team than recent results have shown, and the 22-year-old is sure the club’s fortunes will turn around sooner rather than later with a flurry of injured players returning.

He said: “It’s all there for us, it’s just a case of tidying up the basics.

“It is frustrating at the moment, but I have faith in the team and the gaffer, and I think things will click very soon.

“We’ve got a few injured lads coming back into the fold soon, so that’s good for us.

“We can see having those players back will help, and you can see there’s potential there because we’ve beaten some big sides.

“It will be good when we have those injured boys back, and hopefully we can kick on then.”
