The AA has issued a warning to UK road users to keep an eye out for "hidden" potholes this month.

An extra 225 pothole-related breakdowns are being attended to each day in November, the motoring association has said.

Since the start of the month there has been a marked increase in issues caused by potholes, with increased rainfall and standing water on the road said to be obscuring holes in the road.

As a result the AA has issued a warning to UK road users to watch out for any dangers potentially lurking beneath such water, as they can also be a problem for cyclists and motorcylists.

Edmund King, AA president, said: “Potholes hidden by rainfall are one of the worst things all road users must overcome when they head out.

“Well hidden potholes, deeper than expected, and with the ability to cause monumental damage mean our crumbling roads are deteriorating at a rapid rate.

“An additional 225 pothole related breakdowns a day in November alone is shocking and will only worsen as more rain is predicted and the weather turns cold – causing more damage along the way."

King added that a "massive cash injection" was needed to help keep residential streets up to standard.

Impact from driving into a pothole can cause numerous issues including tyre blowouts, punctures and suspension damage.
