PADDLERS from Dauntsey’s School were in action at the National Schools Kayak Championships last weekend.

Teams of pupils in both novice and senior crews competed in the sprint regatta at Thames Valley Park in Reading.

Seeding heats, a 500m time trial and a 200m knockout competition were all contested, alongside marathon races on Dreadnaught Reach with the championship senior race lasting 20km and the novice contest lasting 12km.

Local paddlers secured some superb results on the day, led by Alice Butler, Elisabeth Peake, Frozan Tahiry, Elyn Ma, Maddie George and Poppy Waterworth, who were first novice ladies, team.

Flossie Ball, Kitty Kirby, Algie Fooks, Tom Scott, Adam McCormick and Jonathan Langton finished as second senior team, a result matched by the senior ladies’ novice crew of Elisabeth Peake and Alice Butler.

Flossie Ball and Kitty Kirby were also fastest senior ladies in the 500m sprint, with Maddy Wilks and Carraig Green taking the same accolade in the mixed crew senior 500m sprint.

Adam McCormick and Jonathan Langton won the senior 500m sprint Final 2, while Flossie Ball and Kitty Kirby claimed top spot in the senior girls’ marathon.

DEVIZES Canoe Club held their end-of-season awards evening to celebrate members’ achievements throughout the year.

Beatrix Fooks was named Lightning Paddler of the Year, while the Most Hasler Points award went to Juliet Fooks and Steve Bush with 87.

Carraig Green won the junior newcomer award, with Jackie Gay taking the honours amongst the seniors.

Nigel Chivers was named Club Racer of the Year, with the Canadian Paddler of the Year award going to William Fooks and Octavius Fooks.

Charlie Allen and Edd Dobson won prizes as the most improved junior and senior respectively.

Ann Slator was Volunteer of the Year, the Golden Rudder award went to Mae Allen and Flossie Ball, with Dan Colby collecting the Prolite award.

The club also celebrated achievements of members at the national championships, where Devizes finished 16th out of 56 clubs.

At the nationals, Beatrix Fooks was first in U12 K2 and second at U12 Lightning.

Daisie Ball was first in U10 K2 and second at U10 Lightning, Mollie Ball was first in U12 junior ladies K1 and second amongst U14 junior ladies K2, with Flossie Ball fourth in U16 junior ladies K1.
