CORSHAM got the better of a closely-fought Wiltshire derby away at Bradford on Avon, claiming a 36-29 victory in Southern Counties South.

The lead changed hands continually during the game and it was not until the final few minutes that the result was decided.

Corsham ran in six tries in all as Liam Snape, Scott Parry and George Hiscock scored two each as Kalif Barnes added three conversions.

Elsewhere, Devizes struggled on their return to action as they lost 45-22 away at third-in-the-table Walcot.

The home side showed their intent from the first minute and a Walcot winger got around the outside to dot down in the corner for a converted try.

Devizes then lost Craig Bryant to injury within the first five minutes before conceding a second try in similar fashion to the first.

The visitors suffered more injury agony as Jorge Wadman withdrew, and Walcot scythed through again for tries three and four inside the opening 25 minutes.

Luke Moore’s departure to injury saw a rejig in the pack and a fifth try was swiftly added by Walcot before the break.

A glimpse of positivity for Devizes came via a burst from Steve McCraith, who played in Sam White before he offloaded to Scott Martin to crash over the tryline and cut the half-time deficit to 35-5.

Within minutes of the second half restarting, Walcot added a sixth score of the day.

However, Devizes began to fight back and good attacking play saw Brian Hopkins run a superb line to crash over, converted by Connor Scott.

The visitors had their tails up and strong carrying from the pack, gave Luke Rapson a platform to weave past a couple of defenders to dot down.

Devizes thought they had another try through Sam White, only for the final offload to be adjudged as forward, and from the turnover, Walcot edged upfield to bag their seventh and final try.

The withdrawal of Steve McCraith to injury saw Devizes finish the game with 14 men, however, they had the final word as the ball was worked wide to Scott to bag the visitors’ fourth try and ensure they at least went home with a bonus point.
