CALNE Town joint-manager Ben Redford feels like his team “can beat anyone right now” in Toolstation League Division One following their 2-0 win over Wells City last weekend, writes JONATHAN LEIGHFIELD.

Shannon Pocock and Billy Gleed netted second-half goals to extend the Lilywhites’ winning run to four games, while goalkeeper Martin Mitchell kept his 13th clean sheet of the season.

The manner of the victory was even more impressive to Redford as Calne became only the second team to shut out Wells in the league this season.

Redford, who manages the team alongside Clive McDaid, felt his side fully deserved the three points and was bullish about any upcoming opponent’s chances when facing Calne.

He said: “We knew last weekend would be tough because Wells have got games in hand over a lot of teams and they can still get promoted.

“Going into the game, we were missing a few key players through injury and illness, but both of the lads who came in did a good job.

“We definitely deserved the win – we never looked like conceding and at the moment, we’re scoring goals for fun and look really solid at the back.

“With the form we’re in, I feel like we can beat anyone right now.”

Calne have prevented their opponents from scoring in five of their last seven games and Redford is more pleased with his side’s ability to stop teams scoring than he is with their attacking potency.

And with top scorer Stuart Windsor now out for over a month with a pulled hamstring, Redford will be desperate for his defence to stay water-tight if they are to continue their winning run.

He said: “The most pleasing thing for us is the clean sheets because last season we only had three all year in the league and this season we have 13 already.

“That’s credit to our back four and Martin (Mitchell) – he has had a really good season so far.

“Clean sheets have won us a lot of games as we’ve won a lot by the odd goal, so the back five need to take a lot of credit for helping us do that.”

Elsewhere, Chippenham Park almost completed an unlikely comeback against third-placed Chard Town.

After finding themselves 3-0 down at half-time, goals from Luke Curtis, Eddie Swain and Landon Golding threatened to salvage a point for struggling Park, however, Chard’s Christian Blango netted the winner to consign Chippenham to their 14th defeat of the season.

Devizes Town lost 1-0 at home to Bishop Sutton, while Corsham and Warminster Town were without fixtures.
