CALNE claimed just a fifth win of the season in Dorset & Wilts One North as they edged out bottom side Supermarine 18-15.
Matt Kelly and Jack Austin both scored tries for Calne, with Kelly also kicking a penalty to go alongside Liam Kearney’s five points with the boot.
Elsewhere, Minety’s chances of a top-six finish look remote after they were subjected to a nine-try mauling at the hands of a well-organised Melksham team, with the hosts roaring to a 65-5 success.
The visitors’ sole try came in the closing stages of the game as Colin French ran in a consolation touchdown.
Minety coach Andy Grayson said: “There’s not a lot of positives that we can take from that game, although I thought Will Seaton had a good debut and Chris Rule put in a man-of-the-match performance with his tackling in midfield.
“I’d certainly like to thank all of the 2nd XV players who stepped up and hope that the injured players can rest and recover before our next match at home to Pewsey in a fortnight’s time.”
Finally, it was honours even for Pewsey Vale when they hosted Trowbridge 2nd as the two sides could not be separated in a 33-33 draw.
