ALUN Rossiter is confident Swindon Robins can turn the tide of recent poor results at the National Speedway Stadium when they travel to take on Belle Vue Aces tonight.
The Robins resume their SGB Premiership programme this evening, racing for the first time in a fortnight.
Swindon have enjoyed a strong run of results so far in 2019, picking up at least a point in defeat from all seven of their meetings in all competitions.
However, they will need to arrest a poor recent record at the National Stadium if they are to continue that streak this evening.
Swindon lost on each of their three trips to Manchester last season and have won just two of eight fixtures at Belle Vue’s new home since the Aces moved to the venue in 2016.
As his side prepare to return to action for the first time since beating Peterborough Panthers at home on May 6, team manager Rossiter says his troops must travel north believing victory is possible.
“It’s a tough place to go, but we have riders who can get around there and we’ll certainly go there in a positive frame of mind,” said Rossiter.
“We’ve had a good start to the season. We’ve taken points everywhere we’ve gone so far, and obviously having Jason (Doyle) back is a big boost for the team.
“We’ve got riders that race Belle Vue well. I’m confident we can give them a run for their money.
“We know how good Max Fricke is there – he’s pretty unbeatable. We know what we’re up against.
“We need to make sure we are on our game and establish the correct set-ups in the early heats.
“Generally, the track there is exceptionally good.”
Tonight’s meeting marks skipper Jason Doyle’s return to the Robins line-up for the first time since April 29.
Injury forced the Australian out of Swindon’s most recent meeting against Peterborough a fortnight ago, but he made his racing return on Saturday night during the opening round of this year’s world championship at the Polish Grand Prix in Warsaw.
After a swift recovery from nasty injuries suffered in a crash in Poland two weeks ago, Rossiter expects his talisman to at full throttle in Manchester this evening.
Rossiter said: “We all know what Jason is like – he doesn’t like to sit around for too long.
“I’m sure he’s confident enough to ride, otherwise he wouldn’t be riding.
“I don’t expect to see a 70 per cent Jason Doyle, I expect to see a 100 per cent Jason Doyle.”
