RASMUS Jensen admits his Swindon Robins debut went better than he could ever have hoped after a superb 14+1 points haul on Bank Holiday Monday.

Jensen was drafted in to replace Dawid Lampart in the Robins’ number two slot in Monday’s evening meeting at home to Poole Pirates in the SGB Premiership.

The Dane rose to the challenge superbly and produced a sensational performance to top score for Swindon as they shared a 45-45 draw at the Abbey Stadium.

Jensen’s first outing in Robins colours was as actually as a guest booking, with the BSPA subsequently approving his switch onto the Swindon roster on a full-time basis on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old, who also rides for Glasgow Tigers in the Premiership, will therefore permanently replace Polish rider Lampart at number two in Alun Rossiter’s side.

Jensen marked his first Robins ride with a heat win in the opening race against Poole and followed it up with another success and four second places from his six rides.

“I can’t ask for a better debut – that was really good,” said Jensen.

“The track wasn’t in the best shape, but I made some good starts. You have just got to hang onto the bike and see where you end up.

“I was just racing. You go out there and give what you have and see where it takes you.

“I don’t know what my targets are now. I will probably set them too high after Monday, but I will just take it as it comes and see what happens.”

Jensen’s very first ride as a Swindon rider saw him beat former world champion Jason Doyle as the pair recorded a Robins 5-1 win over the Pirates.

In his number two slot, the Dane is likely to contest many more races alongside Swindon’s Australian skipper.

Jensen said: “I know Jason from a while back. I have ridden with him a few times and he is a really good captain for the team.”

Jensen will have his maiden meeting as a permanent signing next Thursday when Swindon resume their Premiership programme with a home clash against King’s Lynn Stars.
