ROYAL Wootton Bassett racer Anders Rowe will lead Swindon Sprockets’ charge at the Abbey Stadium on Sunday (4pm) in an inter-county challenge fixture against Kent Kings.
The meeting will feature some of the leading young prospects in British speedway, and could start a new era of junior racing at the Abbey should it prove a success.
Rowe, 17, rides for Kent in the National Development League. But, following a discussion between Robins chairman Terry Russell and Kent promoter Len Silver, both teams have agreed to allow Rowe to race in the colours of his local team as a one-off.
Dale Curson, of Adaptive Living, will sponsor and manage the Sprockets septet – which includes Danyon Hume, David Wallingers, Richard Andrews, Jordan Palin and brothers Joe and Dan Thompson.
Swindon Robins co-promoter Lee Kilby said: “It is great to get the Sprockets back on track in this challenge fixture.
“The history of the Sprockets is a long and successful one, and I hope this latest chapter can lead to more racing at junior level in the future.
“The reality is we need to see about 500 supporters through the door to make this level of racing sustainable.
“At an entry fee of just £10, I’m hoping our supporters will get behind this meeting.”
