CO-PROMOTER Lee Kilby wants the Abbey Stadium roar to act as the club’s eighth man this evening when King’s Lynn Stars visit in Swindon Robins’ do-or-die Supporters’ Cup fixture.
A home draw against Poole Pirates in April threatened to derail Swindon’s cup campaign with only 15 of their 90 group stage heats raced.
But a faultless win at Wimborne Road, coupled with eye-catching performances at King’s Lynn and Ipswich, have placed the Robins in the driving seat ahead of tonight’s meeting.
Crowds this season have pleased Kilby to date, but he now hopes the club’s seven riders can give something back to the fans by bagging top spot in the competition’s southern group – which will lead to a two-legged showdown in the final against Belle Vue Aces.
Kilby said: “Without a doubt, tonight is the biggest meeting of the season.
“It’s an odd one, the cup has taken different forms over the years. But, at the end of the day, it is a cup final we are trying to reach.
“And if we can achieve that, it would be fantastic. We want everyone onboard and to get behind the team.
“We’ve got that regular speedway flowing now – that regularity is important. And I hope the supporters help cheers us over the line and into that final.”
