DAVID Howell will be hoping to build on his season’s best performance at the Czech Masters in Prague last week when starting in the Scandinavian Open this afternoon.

Swindon star Howell shot rounds of 69, 71, 70 and 70 to end the most recent European Tour tournament on eight-under and scoop more than £7,100 in prize money.

Prior to last weekend, the 44-year-old had made only two cuts out of a possible 14 this season, with his best performance having been at the British Masters in May where he finished in a tie for 42nd place.

But with momentum on his side, the two-time Ryder Cup winner now has a chance to record back-to-back weekend appearances for the first time since August last year.

Hill Golf and Sports Club in Gothenburg hosts this year’s Scandinavian Open.

The course presents players with five par four holes on both the front and back nine, five par threes and three par five holes.

Howell starts his opening round this afternoon at 1.10pm (BST) in the company of home favourite Simon Forsstrom and French hope Victor Perez.

Last year, Howell finished the four-day event four-under and scooped more than £14,000 in prize money after rounds of 71, 68, 68 and 69.
