BROOME Manor golf complex hosted the annual Tiger Cup at the weekend, with 24 junior golfers splitting into equal teams of two.
‘Team Europe’ faced ‘Team USA’ – and while the weather did its best to disrupt play on Saturday, bright sunshine came as a welcome relief to organisers on Sunday.
Saturday ended prematurely, with USA leading Europe 4-2.
USA continued to play strongly on day two and led 8.5-3.5 by the end of the fourball matches.
Captains Brendan O’Neil and Paul Turland selected their singles orders, and Europe staged a late fightback.
Europe won six out of the first eight singles matches to go within a point of USA.
But a nail-biting finish saw Jamie Daglish of USA finish the job, as a 13-11 win was secured.
Tournament organiser Lee Hayward said: “We had a mixed bag of weather, but the players were outstanding throughout.
“When I set up this event seven years ago, I couldn’t imagine it would become what it has turned into today.
“I am proud of the players, their parents and both teams’ captains.”
