SWINDON youngster Ellie Webster was the latest recipient of England Golf’s Hero’s Handshake award at her club, Wrag Barn, last week.

The 12-year-old was presented with the prize in front of friends and family as a result of her excellent contributions to Girls Golf Rocks – where she is an ambassador – and her dedication to promoting the sport to other young girls through social media.

Since joining Wrag Barn two years ago, Webster has spent her time providing tips and encouragement for girls that are new to the game and this year attended two six-week coaching blocks set up by England Golf and the Golf Foundation.

She also posts about her golfing adventures on Instagram and has gained more than 1,000 followers thanks to her honest and witty posts.

Mum Tracy, dad Michael and little brother Logan were all present to see Webster pick up her award after she finished playing in a club Texas scramble competition on Sunday.

Afterwards, Ellie’s mum Tracy said: “There’s nothing else she wants to do in life - there are no other options to consider. She wants to be a golfer.

“Ellie is quite quiet and unassuming, but her involvement at the golf club has built up her confidence.

“I supervise her social media access and together we have posted videos and photos. The good thing is she is not afraid to talk about her bad rounds as well as the good ones.

“As a family we are so proud of her and all she is doing. This award means the world to her.”
