MELKSHAM Town battled back from a goal down to beat Mangotsfield United at the weekend and make it back-to-back wins in Southern League Division One South for the first time this season.

Richard Fey's side staged a superb late fightback to claim a 2-1 victory at the InfiLED Arena, following up their 3-1 success away at Barnstaple Town from seven days earlier.

The result makes it five matches unbeaten in a row in the league for Melksham, a run dating date to the start of November.

That form has eased their worries in the bottom half of the table and they are now up to 14th in the standings.

Manager Fey will be hoping that good run can continue when his side make a swift return to action away at Bideford on Tuesday night.

Melksham were handed the initiative early on against Mangotsfield as the visitors saw striker Jake Thomas shown a straight red card inside the opening 10 minutes following a late challenge on Aidan Chainey.

The home side were unable to make the numerical advantage count, though, as half-time arrived with the score still goalless, and they actually fell behind 10 minutes after the change of ends when James Ollis broke the deadlock for the visitors.

But Melksham raised the tempo after that and drew level with 15 minutes to play when Liam Monelle hit the back of the net for the first time this season.

And the comeback was complete nine minutes later when Jack Ball lashed home the winner from the penalty spot after Will Christopher had been sent tumbling in the box.
