MELKSHAM Town pulled off the result of Boxing Day’s fixtures in Southern League Division One South when they stunned Frome Town, who began the day at the head of the table.

Richard Fey’s side claimed a sensational 4-1 victory at home, becoming just the second team to beat Frome in the league this season.

The result also extended Melksham’s remarkable run of form in December as they claimed a perfect 12 points after four wins from four league games in the month.

The InfiLED Arena are unbeaten in seven Division One South fixtures in total and have not lost in the league since October 21.

It was the perfect way to end the year for the Wiltshire side, as there were no fixtures scheduled in the division over the weekend.

Melksham were hoping to carry that hot steak into 2020 when they travelled to another high-flying team, Paulton Rovers, on New Year’s Day.

Fey’s side have their first home game of the new decade on Saturday when they play host to Cirencester Town.

Melksham got off to a dream start against Frome in their post-Christmas duel as Luke Ballinger fired them ahead after only seven minutes.

The home side looked like carrying that lead into the break, only for former Melksham man Jon Davies to strike and haul Frome back level with two minutes of the first half left to play.

The contest remained even until midway through the second period when the home side got their noses in front once again as Albert Hopkins hit the back of the net.

That goal provided the spark for a stellar finish from Melksham as Ballinger swiftly added his second of the game before loanee Joe Romanski got his name on the scoresheet to make it three goals in eight minutes for the hosts and seal another impressive three points.

The result means Melksham start the new year sitting 11th in the table, having picked up six wins and 23 points from 17 league fixtures this season.
