ROVERS ON COURSE TO RETAIN KO CUP

Last season’s AM Print & Copy-sponsored Knockout Cup winners Box Rovers remain on course to defend the title they won last term after they overcame a gutsy performance from Second Division Chippenham Icons, who they defeated 2-1.

Ashley Alchin gave the top flight side a 1-0 half-time lead. Zac Hillier doubled their advantage after the break and although Clinton Hartley’s goal for Icons made things interesting, Rovers held on to book their third successive cup final spot.

HOROBIN NETS LATE WINNER FOR NEW INN

Old Road's opponents in this season’s Westernsport Trophies-sponsored WG Parr Trophy Final will be New Inn Wacker.

They came from behind to defeat Division One stablemates Sutton Benger 3-2 and book their place in a second successive final where they will hope to go one better than they did last term, when they were beaten 2-0 by Bath Road.

However, Jason Cole’s 25-yard thunderbolt gave Benger a 1-0 interval lead.

Sean Horobin’s excellent strike restored parity for New Inn and Lee Fordham’s bullet header from Daryl Ward’s pinpoint cross put them 2-1 up.

With four minutes remaining, New Inn keeper Marc Pearce was adjudged to have fouled a Benger man, leading to him being sinbinned and Benger being awarded a penalty which Craig Askew tucked away to make it 2-2.

With Benger pushing forward and looking to make their numerical advantage count, they were hit by a classic counter-attack as Horobin broke clear and slotted home in stoppage time what proved to be the winner.

RANGERS SHOCK LEADERS WORTON

It was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show for Shoestrings chargrill-sponsored Chippenham Sunday League Premier Division leaders Worton & Cheverell.

The villagers, who qualified for the Wiltshire Sunday Cup final last weekend, returned to earth with a bang as they suffered an unexpected 5-2 defeat away at Westbury Rangers.

Rangers took the lead on four minutes courtesy of Marc Lanfear’s first of the game before Doug Dickson got Worton back on level terns in the 23rd minute.

A second from Lanfear saw Rangers reclaim the lead on 37 minutes only for Tom Slater’s goal in the 41st minute to leave the teams level at the break.

Despite being pegged back, Rangers had the bit between their teeth and got their noses back in front in the 52 minute with Corey Gardner putting them 3-2 ahead.

Ashley Easton added the hosts' fourth on the hour and with just two minutes remaining Lanfear completed his hat-trick to seal what was an unexpected but well deserved win for Rangers.

Bromham 2 FC Lacock 4

Bromham and top flight title hopefuls FC Lacock produced a feast of football in what were dreadful conditions as Bromham’s New Road ground.

Trailing 2-0 at one point, Lacock showed their title credentials as they turned things around to claim a 4-2 success.

Bromham were two-goals up through goals from Ryan Bole and Eddie Summers, but were pegged back as Adam Stevenson halved the deficit before Dan King made it 2-2 on the stroke of half-time.

Kieron Gleed struck to put Lacock 3-2 in front early in the second period and after what was a great second half by both teams on a dreadful pitch, Gleed netted his second and Lacock’s fourth in the final minute to seal the points.

Bath Road 4 FC North Wiltshire 1

After not being able to raise a team for the last two weeks FC North Wiltshire returned to action for the first time since the beat AFC Melksham 4-2 at the end of January.

Although they suffered a 4-1 loss at the hand of Bath Road, manager Steve King was happy to get a fixture out of the way and pleased with his team’s performance despite the defeat.

Tyler Smith, Harry Ryan and Phil Sturmey’s double made up Bath Road’s quartet, while Kieran Tarrant replied for North Wilts.

For a third straight week, meanwhile, Faded were unable to raise a team, giving opponents Bromham the three points. AFC Melksham's match with FC Lacock was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Bowerhill.

POINTS SHARED AT BOWERHILL

Biddestone’s first outing for over a month saw them have to settle for a point from their Division One clash with Westbury Railway, who bounced back from last Sunday’s shock 3-1 defeat to Kingfisher.

Louis Harris scored Biddestone’s first with a deflected shot from distance. George Garraway arrived at the far post to get his head on a Shaun Paradise free-kick to double Biddy’s lead.

A long throw split the Biddestone defence, leaving Mark Allard to head the Railway men back into the game prior to half-time.

And Jake Letteboer restored parity after the break when he pounced to slot home after Biddestone failed to defend a corner.

Biddestone thought they had snatched all three points at the death but the goal was ruled out, leaving the teams to share the spoils.

Old Road FC 7 FC Libby 1

WG Parr Trophy finalists Old Road were thankful to FC Libby after their match that was scheduled for the Beaches in Shaw was moved to Awdry Avenue at the 11th hour.

However grateful they were, Old Road showed little mercy as they strolled to a 7-1 triumph.

Zak Sallows and Seamus Monney both scored hat-tricks with two of Monney’s goals coming from the penalty spot, a rare Will Green effort made up the winner's tally. Andy Sayers penalty gave Libby the consolation.

The Foresters Arms 6 Kingfisher 2

Four weeks on from beating Kingfisher 9-3, The Foresters Arms hosted their opponents in the return fixture and like the previous encounter Paul Roast’s side ran out easy winners, this time claiming a 6-2 success in terrible conditions at Bowerhill.

Luke Turvey’s deflected strike off the unfortunate Gavin Freegard gave Foresters the lead, and Ian Dowell made it 2-0.

Sean Meer gave away a penalty at the start of the second half. Keeper Steve Sims saved Andy Rose's effort, only for Rose to follow up and tap the ball home to reduce the arrears.

James Ponsford scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-1, while a second from Turvey and Dowell sandwiched a Stuart Barber effort to take it to 6-1 before Todd Richardson scored a second for the Fishermen.

Lion & Fiddle's game against Sporting Box was postponed

ROYAL OAK ROMPING TO TITLE

For the first time in three weeks, Division Two saw some action.

Just two games were played, one of them at The Lye in Seend where the top two went head-to-head and it was the runaway leaders Royal Oak who claimed a 2-1 victory over hosts Lavis FC to stretch to stretch their winning run to 16 matches and extend the lead over their rivals to 12 points.

Lavis led 1-0 at the interval courtesy of Reece Collyer’s stunning strike.

Second-half goals from Chris O’Donovan and Ali Bradley saw Oak to victory, but things could have been different as Jack Booth fluffed his lines in front of goal, missing a sitter from a couple of yard that would have earned Lavis a point.

Bremhill View FC 16 London Road Inn FC 1

Bremhill View returned to action after a six-week break, but they showed little signs of rustiness as they put local Calne-based rivals London Road Inn to the sword.

Already 5-1 up at the break, Bremhill bagged 11 unanswered second-half goals to romp to a 16-1 win.

Jake Taylor helped himself to a five-timer, Tom Sigee scored four, Tom Boakes struck a hat-trick, Aaron Whitchell netted twice and Jamie Crump and Luke Barrett’s singles made up the 16.

Patch Whitlock replied for a shellshocked London Road.
