MALMESBURY speedster Louis Harvey took another step towards his Formula 1 dream as he was selected to join Motorsport UK’s 2020 Academy Squad Programme.

The scheme develops and supports talented young drivers who demonstrate exceptional potential to progress through the competitors’ pathway into the Team UK programme and beyond.

Harvey’s selection was based on his performance during the 2019 season, when he came third in the British Karting Championship and was crowned Rissington Kart Club Champion.

The youngster also received the John Payne Memorial Trophy for best overall junior along with all his other achievements in motorsport since he started racing.

“I am so excited I have been selected and I am really looking forward to seeing what the programme has to offer,” Harvey said.

“Motorsport is more than just a hobby for me; reaching Formula 1 is very hard but I will do everything I can to achieve my dream.”

Motorsport UK academy coach James Wozencroft added: “The Motorsport UK Squad programme offers a great opportunity for a driver to develop their knowledge in all of the factors relevant to achieving their goals in the sport.

“The industry experts offer real insight into specialist fields that is often not possible to access.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the new selection of athletes and helping them utilise this information to become the best drivers they can be.”

Harvey has the opportunity to take to the track in a Formula Ford later this year providing he can find additional sponsorship over and above what he needs to compete in karting.
