Semington fightback to beat Forest

A week on from the opening day disaster that saw half of the scheduled fixtures lost to the elements, it was back to business for teams from the shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League, as all but two matches which, due to Covid19 issues were postponed by the league, went ahead.

Opening day defeats for Semington and Forest Community Centre gave their shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham League, Premier Division meeting an extra edge. With both teams desperate to get their first points on the board it was Semington who thanks to a spirited second half fightback as they overturned a 2-0 deficit to claim a thrilling 3-2 success with their winning goal coming deep into stoppage time who managed to do so.

After neither team troubled the scoreboard in the first half two quick fire goals from Sean Horobin and Luke Whittard gave the Community Centre a 2-0 lead.

Semington’s manager Chris Dore then made a few tweaks to his team and the introduction of new legs from the bench seemed to do the trick as Jake Abbott pulled a goal back for the hosts before his second of the morning got his team back on level terms. With the game in added time Abbott completed the incredible fight back by claiming his and Semington’s third of the game to give the villagers their 3-2 win.

AFC Melksham 7 North Star Club FC 3

North Star Club who were top of division one when the previous campaign was curtailed in March, travelled to AFC Melksham for their opener on their return back to the top flight, and they were given a reality check as Dave Jenkins hosts claimed a comfortable 7-3 win.

James Dark saw his opener for Melksham cancelled out by Dean Fry. Paul Gittens regained the lead for the hosts and Jack Woolsgrove planted the ball home to give Melksham a 3-1 interval lead.

Gavin Naldi made things interesting when he pulled a goal back for North Star, however that only seemed to wake Melksham from their half time slumber as a debut goal for Joe Moloney made it 4-2. A second for James Dark and a goal apiece for Rob O’Harrow and Ben Jenkins took it to 7-2 before Ollie Parfitt struck a late consolation for North Star.

Bromham FC 1 Bath Road FC 7

Bromham who started their campaign with an impressive 3-1 triumph away at Semington, welcomed Bath Road to their New Road ground for what was a first ever meeting of the teams. Bath Road who dropped just 1 point from 15 towards the end of last season, picked up where they left off from with an excellent all-round performance that saw them defeat their hosts 7-1.

Two penalties from Jamal Chevelleau gave Bath Road the early advantage and it was as good as game over for Bromham when Darani Chevelleau added a third prior to half time.

After the break Jamal Chevelleau completed his hat trick, Harry Ryan’s single and a brace from Tyler Smith made up Bath Road’s seven.

Alfie Naylor was on target to give Bromham their consolation.

FC Pilot 2 Corsham Wildcats FC 2

Corsham Wildcats who last graced the league in 2018 when they finished as top dogs in the Premier division, visited early leaders, FC Pilot who last week gave manager Graham Griffiths a dream start with a 10-0 victory over Forest Community Centre. 2-0 up at the break Pilot looked set for another impressive win, however a strong second half revival from the Wildcats saw them fight back to claim a 2-2 draw.

After a sluggish first 10 minutes Pilot woke up and totally dominated the next 35 minutes with Rhys Talmash who scored 5 on the opening day finding the net twice to put his team 2-0 up, however a couple of injuries meant changes to the Pilot set up, but chances still came and went the hosts missing a host that could have seen them 4 or 5 up at the break.

Those missed chance were to come back and haunt the Pilot as Ben Wickens got Wildcats back in the game. Aa period of sustained pressure for Wildcats finally paid off and Zac Hillier netted the visitors equaliser. Pilot had a couple of late chance to win it, but Wildcats were able to hold out for a deserved shared of the spoils.

Lavis beat Beeches in crunch game

With both Beeches and Lavis FC starting the shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League, Division One season with convincing opening day wins, respective managers Andy Anderson and Aaron Latcham were looking to build on their successes and it was Latcham who were the happy of the two come the final at Shaw as his team had taken maximum points courtesy of a 4-1 victory to move top of the table.

Simon Parfitt who had scored a hat trick from the bench for Lavis last time out, was given a starting place and rewarded his manager’s faith in him as he fired his team in front. Drew Adams restored parity for Beeches before a back post header from Matty Hall put Lavis back ahead to earn them a 2-1 half time advantage.

A sublime 25 yard drive from Levi Wood extended the Lavis lead to 3-1 before Jack Booth put the seal on an impressive performance with a tremendous finish from 18 yards out into the top corner to wrap up a 4-1 success for title hopefuls Lavis FC.

Bremhill View FC 4 Old Road FC 1

Bremhill View who on paper have an excellent squad of players welcomed Old Road FC to Beversbrook. With the visitors looking to bounce back from an opening day loss, it promised to be a trilling contest which didn’t disappoint as Bremhill had to dig deep before claiming a 4-1 triumph.

Old Road fell behind to a Tom Sigee penalty which was enough to see Bremhill claim a 1-0 advantage at the break.

Tom Sigee scored his second penalty of the morning and he added a third to claim the match ball before Louis Hoof netted for Old Road which was little more than a consolation as Jake Taylor was on hand to bag a fourth of the morning for the hosts.

Kingfisher FC 1 Sutton Benger 6

The quick thinking of Kingfisher secretary Chris Simpkins meant that Sutton Benger who had seen their game with Biddestone cancelled by the league, wouldn’t miss out on a fixture. The Fishermen hosted Benger in the rescheduled game in what can now be officially billed as a derby match following Benger's return to their roots at the Park & Recreational ground.

It was Benger who took the spoils 6-1 to maintain their impressive start to the season against an under strength but spirited Kingfisher side.

A blistering opening 15 minutes saw Benger take a 3 goal lead, the first goal coming from a delightful ball from Jason Cole which was latched onto and dispatched into the right hand corner by Ethan Jones to open the scoring and his account for the season.

Moments later it was 2-0 when James Hernandez scored a carbon copy of his goal from the previous week, cutting in on his right foot and curling his effort into the top corner. When another Jason Cole pass was flicked on by Matt Blackmore and Jones calmly rounded the keeper to slot home his second and Benger’s third.

You would have been forgiven for thinking it was going to be a long day for Kingfisher. However, Chris Simpkins rallied his troops who tightened themselves up and the fourth goal didn’t arrive until the stroke of half time, James Weston, flicking home an Ethan Jones corner to claim his second of the season.

With Benger, manager Kai Flack able to make some changes for the second half it was his substitutes who combined to make an instant impact, Matthew Bartlett’s cross from the right hand side headed in by Marcus Frost. Bartlett then went from provider to scorer, poking home a James Hernandez cross from the other channel shortly after.

Again hopes of an elusive clean sheet were dashed when a sumptuous Chris Simpkins delivery from a corner was met by a firm header from Todd Richardson giving Luke Tood no chance in the Benger goal.

Pack Horse FC 0 Sporting Box FC 0

After missing out on a game last weekend, Pack Horse and Sporting Box kicked off their campaign at Beversbrook and unbelievably after seven months of inactivity the match saw both defences come out on top as neither teams were unable to make a breakthrough as they fought out a 0-0 draw.

Postponed Matches

Biddestone who suffered an opening day defeat saw their match with Sutton Benger cancelled by the League after a Biddestone player tested positive for Covid19, Chippenham Icons who were Biddestone’s opponents last weekend also saw their fixture away at Royal Oak cancelled in the best interests of player’s health and safety.

Woods double gives Spartak late win

Both Spartak Rudloe and Calne United who missed out on an opening day game got their shoestings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League, Division Two campaign underway at Vallens Terrace and they served up a cracker that was played in a great spirt and was eventually won by Spartak who stole maximum points thanks to a late penalty.

Adam Welch gave Calne a first half lead which was cancelled out after the break by Andy Woods. Woods then sealed the victory of Spartak when he kept his nerve to fire home from the spot to claim his and Spartak’s second of an entertaining game that could have gone either way.

Calne Athletic FC 2 The Castle FC 12

With many former Worton & Cheverell players in their squad, Devizes based The Castle FC are a team to be feared year, and under the guidance of manager Tom Perkins who led the shoestrings-chargrill Chippenham Sunday League, Division Two newcomers to the top flight title in 2014, they hit the ground running with a 12-2 thrashing of Calne Athletic.

Dan Sloan, Jamie Mullings and Matt Tilley scored two each, while a goal apiece for Alex Surman, Adam Heath, Liam Hill, Jack Fisher, Nathan Emm along with an Adam Hatch own goal made up the Castle’s dozen

Patch Whitlock and Aaron Tyler replied for Athletic who were London Road Inn last season.

Steeple Ashton 3 FC Devizes United 10

FC Devizes United who are expected to be challenging for the top spot this season entertained Steeple Ashton in what was the hosts first outing of the new campaign. United beat Ashton 6-1 and 11-2 last term made it a hat trick of wins courtesy of a 10-3 success, at St Mary’s after the game was moved from United’s pitch at the County FA headquarters in Devizes.

Kamran Muhid put Devizes ahead but their lead was soon wiped out as Tom A’Court drew Ashton level. A second for Muhid regained the lead for Devizes but once again, this time though Carl Ledbury Ashton got back on level terms.

Oscar Webster put Devizes in front for a third time, but back came Ashton with a second for Ledbury squaring things up a 3-3. Just before half time Devizes struck for a fourth time with Charlie Strickland put them 4-3 in front and on this occasion there was no comeback from Ashton who leaked 6 second half unanswered goals.

Jamie Walters netted twice, Kamran Muhid completed his hat trick, Strickland added his second of the morning with James Stobbart and Gabe Costello scoring to complete the 10 goal haul.

FC Libby 7 Warminster Athletic FC 3

After suffering defeats in their opening games last Sunday FC Libby and Warminster Athletic locked horns at Bowmens Court, Melksham and it was the Libby who claimed their first win of the season as a 7-3 success saw them emerge triumphant.

Rhys Edwards helped himself to a hat trick for Libby, player manager Owen Pearce got his name on the score sheet as did Jordan Meakin, Cameron Pearce and second half substitute Dan Walker.

Second half goals Ben Bullus and two for substitute Aaron Knowles made the score line look more respectable for Warminster.

Fox & Hounds (Warminster) FC 6 Misfits FC 3

Fox & Hounds (Warminster) went into the second round of fixtures top of the pile and a 6-3 victory for Mark Davies men at home to Misfits means that the Fox stay top the table for a second successive week.

Misfits had the better of the first half as goals from Robbie Burton and Tom Webb gave them a 2-1 interval lead, Jayson Stokes volleying home an Alan Hitchcock assist from a corner found the net for Fox & Hounds.

Hitchcock provided a sublime cross for Ikye Ichiebuka to head Fox level. Hitchcock went from provider to scorer as turned home a great ball from Reece Collyer to give his team a 3-2 lead. Jason Stokes pounced on a rebound from an Ichiebuka shot for his second and the Fox’s fourth of the morning.

Stokes set Ichiebuka up for his second of the game, that saw him rifle home a left footed effort into the top corner and it was let to Hitchcock to complete the scoring for Fox & Hounds when he latched on to a great through ball from Jake Owens for 6-2.

Tom Webb scored his second and Misfit’s third with almost the final kick of the game.
