JASON Doyle wants to be back racing at Swindon Robins next season – despite a controversial new rule that has been introduced in Poland, writes NIGEL PEARSON.

Riders in the Polish Ekstraliga have been told they can only race in one other country, which would leave Doyle with a straight choice between Sweden or Britain.

But Robins boss Alun Rossiter has revealed how Doyle has told him he wants to stay with Swindon regardless.

He said: “I’ve been in touch with Doyley and he says he will race in Britain even if this rule is allowed to remain.

“It’s a controversial one introduced by the Poles, and it will put some riders in really difficult positions.

“Doyley has said as long as we get going again in the UK next spring he’ll be here. He lives in the UK and likes riding here.

“It’s a great piece of news for us.

“We may need to tweak the team elsewhere but to keep our top man is a great boost at a time when we’re all facing tricky times.

“He’s such a popular figure with the Swindon fans and we know how important it is at this club to have an out-and-out number one rider. Leigh Adams was a perfect example.”

All seven Premiership clubs have signalled their intention to be at the tapes again next year and club bosses are already working on a potential fixture list.

The promoters met on a zoom call this week.

In line with other sports like lower level Rugby League, including the likes of Bradford Bulls and York City Knights, speedway is planning to launch the 2021 season in April subject to fans returning to venues.

Behind closed doors racing is not an option although a live streaming service proved popular in three events staged at Belle Vue Aces’ National Speedway Stadium recently.
