CLIVE Smith has been appointed as Swindon Croquet Club's new chairman.

Mr Smith takes over from John Small who has worked tirelessly for the club, being a committee member since 2010 and chair since 2015. His efforts have been greatly appreciated by all members.

Members of SCC are busy preparing the lawns for play to restart now that restrictions for outdoor sports have been relaxed. Mr Smith, who took up croquet seven years ago and has become an accomplished player, is keen for as many as possible of the regular tournaments and events to take place this year.

He said: “Everyone at the club is so looking forward to both playing this great game again and meeting up with friends”.

Swindon has entered teams in the various leagues as usual, but the season has been condensed due to the impact of Covid, with commencement of matches delayed until June.

Club members are very friendly and are always keen to welcome and encourage new members.

The three full sized lawns are immaculately maintained and equipment is available for visiting guests. The club holds the prestigious Sport England Clubmark Award, which recognises safe and well-run clubs, and strictly adheres to all Covid social distancing and hygiene regulations.

Free trial sessions are available, and further information can be found on the website: https://swindoncroquetclub.org.uk/ or by ringing John Airey on 01793 873026.
