ADVER Sport assess the performances of the Swindon Town players following the club’s 2-1 victory away at Newport County in League Two.

Jojo Wollacott: 7

Wollacott made a couple of important saves and looked assured all afternoon – nothing he could have done about the goal.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden: 7

Should have won Town a penalty in the first half but didn’t let the stick he was getting from the home fans get to him at all. Showed good character to stay involved in most of Town’s attacks.

Rob Hunt: 7

He seems to be taking to the right centre-back slot quite well. Hunt won some important headers, and his positioning was sound too.

Dion Conroy: 6

After a sluggish start, featuring a woeful pass out that could have cost his team dear, Conroy responded well enough and was an important part of Town’s determined rear-guard action.

Akin Odimayo: 6

Odimayo implemented the ‘no-nonsense’ style of defending against Newport. He often preferred to put his foot through the ball as opposed to finding a teammate, but he got the job done, so you can’t really have too many complaints.

Ellis Iandolo: 7

I thought Iandolo was tidy throughout and efficient with his play. The wing-back put sufficient pressure on Azaz to force the Newport defender to put the ball into his own net. The wait for his first goal of the season goes on.

Louis Reed: 7

In a game in which Town didn’t dominate the ball, Reed still managed to get his foot on the ball and try to make things happen. He and Payne formed an excellent partnership in central midfield. Booked (for most likely telling the referee some things a lot of Town fans would have liked to).

Jack Payne: 7

Payne was involved here and there throughout before saving his most telling contribution until last. He has a knack of scoring some really important goals for Town this season.

Ben Gladwin: 6

Gladwin wasn’t bad, he just wasn’t involved an awful lot. He showed some nice touches, but forward passes were at a premium as Newport restricted space in the final third. Booked.

Alex Gilbert: 5

Many of his teammates showed a degree of rust, but Gilbert was miles away from where he needed to be. He got into some good positions, but the lack of confidence was evident. Subbed.

Tyreece Simpson: 6

Simpson was offered little to no service, and as such endured a pretty quiet afternoon. He could have created a third, but held onto the ball for too long. No great criticism from me.

SUBSTITUTES

Jonny Williams: 6

Williams offered energy and pace as Town changed shape later on. The dribbling ability helped to keep Newport’s formation spread and partly helped Payne go on to score the winner.

Jordan Lyden: N/A

Came on too late to receive a rating.
