“I WILL never forget that” – Kaine Kesler-Hayden was overjoyed to have opened his account for Swindon Town by notching the winner in front of 2000 travelling fans away at Walsall on Saturday.

The Birmingham-born defender struck in the 66th minute as Swindon beat Walsall 2-1 in the second round of the FA Cup.

Tyreece Simpson had put Town in front early on before Emmanuel Osadebe equalised 10 minutes before the break.

But it was the Aston Villa loanee who would have the last laugh, however, remaining alert to volley in Ellis Iandolo’s low cross.

The 19-year-old was ecstatic after the game, and he explained how it felt to score the winner.

Kesler-Hayden said: “It’s incredible to score the winner in an FA Cup game.

“If you watch it back, you can see my face just screaming with joy. I’ll never forget that one – my first goal for Swindon being the winner and in front of that end, it’s amazing.”

Being a Villa man, Kesler-Hayden explained how much it meant for him to net in front of friends and family.

He said: “The rivalry isn’t too bad, but I’m still delighted to have scored against them. It’s my home turf, being from around here, so I’m just delighted.”

Swindon were roared on by over 2000 Town fans at the Banks’ Stadium, and Kesler-Hayden credited the travelling support with playing a huge part in the win.

A lightning start to the second 45 saw Swindon on top before deservedly re-taking the lead through the flying wing-back.

Asked what it was like to play in front of the impressive away following, Kesler-Hayden said: “It felt like a home game – the crowd was so loud.

“I think there was more of our fans than their fans. I was delighted to see that, and that got us going from the very start.

“Especially in the second half, when we came out we could hear them singing and that helped us start well.”
