SWINDON Town head coach Ben Garner admits there is a significant difference in his team’s confidence levels when they are at home compared to when they play away.

Monday’s 2-1 reverse against Leyton Orient moved Swindon’s home record onto seven wins, seven draws, and seven defeats from 21 fixtures.

Meanwhile, the club’s away results stand at 11 victories, four draws, and six defeats from 21 outings.

Town’s style of football is often more progressive and efficient on the road as teams are prepared to take their visitors on rather than sitting in and making life difficult.

Garner stated he sends his players out to play the same way no matter where they are and suggested the team needs to avoid being swayed by boos or cries to move the ball forward more quickly.

He said: “Once you go into the game, you’re restricted in what you can do as a head coach.

“You’re trying to help them in terms of shape and structure, but I also want the players to have the confidence to go and play.

“We certainly have got better confidence away from home than we do at home for whatever reason.

“That’s something that we’ve got to improve now, and certainly something we’ve got to improve next season.

“Regardless of the atmosphere, whether it’s quiet or loud, whether there’s 2000 people or 10,000 people, we have to be professional.

“We have to play the way we’re going to play and have a strong mentality that means it doesn’t change regardless of what’s going on around us.”

Monday’s disappointment in regard to the score was compounded by an injury to Joe Tomlinson which forced him off at half-time.

Garner later revealed Swindon would be without Rob Hunt for the final four games following the full-back’s calf issue sustained against Harrogate Town last week.

Garner said: “With Rob, it’s probably not as bad as we feared but it’s still not great news. He will definitely miss the rest of the season.

“He’s been a really consistent performer for us, and I’ve said many times now, he’s a fantastic professional.

“It’s a disappointment for us and for him, and we’ve also lost Joe Tomlinson against Leyton Orient as well to what looks like a knee injury.

“We’re a little bit light on defenders, but we’ve got to roll up our sleeves, we’ve got to dig in and we’ve got to fight, and we’ve got to try and find a way to win these last four games.”
