LABELLED as 'the best day in Westbury United's history', the Wiltshire side achieved promotion to the Southern League on Monday, April 18 following a 5-0 thumping of Westfields.

Joint-manager Ricky Hulbert netted twice in Monday's success, as did Will Thomson, and Harvey Flippance added the fifth goal in a dominant performance.

That resounding victory, coupled with defeat for Boldmere of the Midland League, confirmed United’s promotion to the fourth tier of non-league football for the first time ever on points-per-game.

Hulbert and Lewis Porter's team enjoyed a remarkable season in the Hellenic League Premier Division, limiting themselves to just four defeats to finish second on 84 points while netting 111 goals and recording 18 clean sheets in all competitions.

At the weekend, Westbury drew 1-1 with local rivals Bradford Town at Meadow Lane.

Charlie Walton netted for the Bobcats midway through the second half before Callum Demkiv secured a vital point with 11 minutes to play.

Bradford's final result of the season saw them finish sixth on 70 points.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town kept their heads in a feisty local derby to emerge 2-1 winners at home to Shrivenham last Friday night.

Shrivenham had six players booked and Adam Bright sent off as Jonathan Peachy-Score netted a consolation for the visitors.

Bailey Gallagher netted in the second half before Alfie Presley struck the winner for Bassett in the 86th minute.

On Sunday, Sam Collier's men went down 2-0 at home to high-flying Corsham Town.

Nathan Davis scored once from open play and one from the penalty spot as Kieran Baggs' side ended their league campaign in seventh.

Corsham can now look forward to the Wiltshire Premier Shield Final at the County Ground on Tuesday, May 3.

Meanwhile, in Southern League Division One South, Melksham Town ended the club's season with a pair of mixed results.

Former striker Phil Ormrod netted the winner as Barnstaple Town stunned Melksham with a 2-1 success at the InfiLED Arena last weekend.

The Supporters' Player Of The Season award recipient Albie Hopkins scored in the 15th minute to give Melksham the lead, only for Ryan Tucker to charge down goalkeeper, Manny Idem's attempted clearance two minutes later and watch on as the ball bounced into the net.

Ormrod popped up to tap home in the 30th minute as Barnstaple gained revenge for their early-season defeat.

But in the final game of the season, Melksham restored some pride to finish in the club's highest-ever position of eighth courtesy of a 2-0 victory away at Larkhall Athletic.

A goalless first-half made way when Sam Hendy netted shortly after the break, and Hopkins turned from assistant to scorer late on to add the cherry on top of the season-ending cake.
