SWINDON Town will have Harry McKirdy available for the League Two fixture away at Hartlepool United on Saturday, head coach Ben Garner confirmed.

The club’s top scorer has been missing for around a month with a calf injury but is set to return with four games to go and Town in desperate need of victories to make the play-offs.

Aside from the four-goal haul away at Harrogate Town, Swindon only scored once in three games when McKirdy was absent and appeared to lack a cutting edge in front of goal – something the 25-year-old has often provided.

But Garner backed up hopes that the marksman would be back for Hartlepool in his pre-match press conference.

Garner said: “Harry McKirdy is fine, he’s good. He’s had a good week of training and trained fully yesterday (Thursday) – he was flying around all over the place. He’s good, he’s in the squad, and he’s ready to go.”

The Town boss revealed he would be without two key defenders for the final quartet however, with Rob Hunt and Joe Tomlinson confirmed to have sustained season-ending injuries.

Hunt is Swindon’s second-highest appearance maker this season while Tomlinson offered a dual-threat despite fulfilling the left-back role.

Clarifying the situation, Garner said: “Rob Hunt is out for the season, unfortunately. It’s a muscle tear in his calf, so he’ll be out for the season.

“As is Joe Tomlinson, unfortunately. He injured his knee on Monday, so he won’t play again this season either.

“We’re waiting to find out what happens next with Joe. We’ve contacted Peterborough to find out. We will fulfil the rehabilitation process here and look after him.

“But it’s their call as the parent club, if they’d prefer him to go back there and do it then that will be the case.”
