SWINDON Town’s Jojo Wollacott and Harry McKirdy were named in the League Two Team of the Season at the EFL’s End of Season awards in London on Sunday night.

Wollacott beat some of the division’s top stoppers, including Northampton Town’s Liam Roberts and Forest Green Rovers’ Luke McGee, to the number one spot to cap off a superb first full year at Swindon.

Meanwhile, McKirdy joined the league’s other top scorers Dom Telford (Newport County) and Matt Stevens (FGR) in the League Two forward line after netting 18 goals and recording seven assists.

Sharing his reaction during Monday morning’s pre-match press conference, Town head coach Ben Garner said: “It’s thoroughly well-deserved for both of them.

“I think there was probably a case for one or two others to be in that team, but my congratulations to both of them.

“Both have had fantastic seasons, and congratulations to all of the players who were named in the team of the season because it means you’ve performed at a high level consistently over the whole year.

“With the EFL awards, they use data to work it out as well as information from whoscored.com as a scoring metric.

“They also have the opinion of the panel of judges. So, it’s always going to be subjective to a certain degree, and you’ll probably get people who will agree with some and disagree with others.

“But anyone who is named in a team of the season, in my opinion, deserves to be there because they’ve been consistent across a whole year.”
