SWINDON Town head coach Ben Garner wants to experience ‘a play-off-like atmosphere’ at the County Ground on Tuesday night.

Town welcome Forest Green Rovers to SN1 in a game which could have season-defining implications for both at the top end of the table.

Rovers, who have already secured promotion to League One for the first time in the club’s history, now have their sights set on the title while Swindon could regain control of their own fate in regard to a top-seven spot with victory.

With the home club holding aspirations of a two-legged affair in mid-May, Garner is keen for his players to pick up some experience of a ‘special’ atmosphere before what he hopes will occur in a few weeks’ time.

Garner said: “The noisier the County Ground is tomorrow, and the bigger the atmosphere is that we create, it becomes a more intimidating place for the opposition.

“We want them to come here and not look forward to it because they understand that it’s going to be a difficult game and also because of the atmosphere.

“Can we make it an intimidating place to come in terms of the noise levels and because of the energy? If we can, that can have an impact on the players.

“I would strongly encourage every supporter coming on Tuesday night – these are young men giving everything for their football club – get behind them, support them because there will be the odd mistake, lift them, and keep pushing them.

“They will thrive off the back of that, I can guarantee they will be giving everything.”

Forest Green are widely considered to be a team which players in a similar style to Swindon, but Garner believes the open style of the game does not guarantee more success for his side.

The Town boss says his side will have to solve the problems Forest Green present before attempting to repeat the quality of the performance against Hartlepool United on Saturday.

Garner said: “We’ll see how they come and play. We’ve got to solve any problem that is put in front of us.

“We’ve got the challenge of a good team which has been promoted and will be looking to go on and win the title.

“We’ve got to perform, we’ve got to play with energy and intensity, and we’ve got to show the same qualities as we did against Hartlepool.

“If we can do that, then we can certainly win the game and put ourselves into a much better position moving into the last two.”
