SCOTT Lindsey felt that his Swindon side performed well and dominated the game despite falling to a 1-0 defeat against Eastleigh.

Danny Whitehall scored the only goal of the game after nine minutes, despite Swindon having the bulk of possession and creating plenty of good chances, they could not find the breakthrough at The Silverlake Stadium.

The Swindon Head Coach was pleased with how his team performed in the second half in particular, even if they were on the losing side again during pre-season.

Lindsey said: “I was really pleased with the performance, someone just spoke to me and said: ‘what about the result?’, my answer to that is I would be more concerned if we won one-nil and didn’t play well. Results will come if we play well.

“First half I thought we were a little bit sloppy with our passing at times, which we spoke about at half-time.

“Possession is king, and when we control the ball like we saw in large parts of the game today then everything falls into place nicely, in terms of our press and our attitude to go and get after the ball in turnovers.

“Once we put them under pressure, they only did one thing and that was boot it in behind and we had to play from there.

“In terms of how we played, we weren’t great with the ball at times in that first half and we weren’t great out of possession either.

“But once you have total dominance and total control you end up having a better shape in transition and without the ball, but once we fixed that we solved the problem.”

Swindon have been switching goalkeepers for each game this pre-season as Lindsey gives Lewis Ward and Sol Brynn the opportunity to compete for the starting position this season.

Lindsey said: “I have been rotating between ‘keepers because I want them to have an equal amount of game time and that can only be fair for them.

“When it comes to picking a goalkeeper for Harrogate, I will assess their respective game time and make my decision accordingly.

“Ultimately it is my decision, but I trust Steve [Mildenhall] implicitly, I will be talking to him and getting his opinion on it and I will be getting Jamie Day’s opinion on it.

“Then we will come together and decide who we think our best option is.”
