SWINDON TOWN have signed Liam Kinsella on a permanent deal, subject to EFL approval.

The 27-year-old has spent the last 19 years at fellow League Two side Walsall but was released from the club at the end of last season.

Kinsella had made over 200 appearances across League One and Two, featuring also in the U19 and U21 Republic of Ireland international youth teams earlier in his career.

More recently, the midfielder picked up Walsall’s Player of the Season awards for both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 campaigns.

He will reunite with former Saddlers boss, Michael Flynn, who had to fight off reported interest from Colchester United to get the deal over the line.

Speaking to Town’s Media Team, he said: "I'm absolutely buzzing to get the deal done now, I've been training with the lads for the last couple of days and to get the deal sorted and done, I'm delighted to be here.

"Swindon's always up there, it's a massive club and I'm just really excited to get going to be honest.”

Kinsella arrives as Town’s third signing of the summer, having previously brought in Murphy Mahoney and Dan Kemp earlier in the window.

Flynn and his side kick off their League Two campaign in just over a week, but first encounter Plymouth Argyle in their final pre-season friendly, which takes place this Saturday at the County Ground.
