A Swindon swimming club has achieved unprecedented success as 17 of its members have qualified for the 2024 Aquatics GB and English National Summer Championships.

This is the highest number of qualifiers Swindon Dolphin Swimming Club has ever seen in a single year.

Head coach Anthony Clark said: "This is an extraordinary achievement for the swimmers and the club.

"To have 17 swimmers qualify for the Summer National Championships is a testament to their hard work and dedication, as well as the support of our coaching staff, support workforce and families.

"We are excited to see how they perform on the national stage and are confident they will make us proud."

One of the 17 is 15-year-old Sophie King, who has qualified for an impressive seven events at the Aquatics GB Summer Championships.

They are the 800m freestyle, 1500m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 400m individual medley, 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke.

This will be her first experience at the championships, capping off a season which has seen her set many club records.

Farrleigh Greaves, 16, has also had a successful season and will now compete in four events at the Aquatics GB Summer Championships - the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke.

He will also feature in two at the English National Summer Championships - the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke.

Eva Higginbotham, 15, earned a place in the club's history by becoming the first of the Dolphin swimmers to beat the 60-second mark in 100m freestyle.

Her exceptional performance ensured qualification for both the Aquatics GB Summer Championships in the 50m and 100m freestyle, and the English National Summer Championships in the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, and 400m individual medley

Ffion Mathias, at 17-years-old, will make her debut in the Aquatics GB Summer Championships where she is set to compete in the 50m and 100m breaststroke.

She will also dive into the pool at the Welsh National Championships, representing her native Wales.

Fred Carter, now competing in the senior age group as an 18-year-old, will compete in the 50m breaststroke at the Aquatics GB Summer Championships after racing at the Olympic Trials earlier this year.

He will also compete in the 100m and 200m breaststroke at the English National Summer Championships, having won multiple medals last summer.

The men’s 14-16 years 4x100m medley relay team, comprising Greaves alongside Lucas Carter, Aaryamaan Singh, and Oscar Symons, qualified for the Aquatics GB Summer Championships after an outstanding performance at the South West Regional Championships.

They are the first team since 2013 to qualify as a relay team.

Other swimmers who have qualified for the English National Summer Championships for the first time include Lily Hunt, 16, Phoebe Kerley, 13, Alfie Workman, 15, Gethin Jenks, 14, and Charlie Owen, 15.

Lily Hunt will compete in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events, Phoebe Kerley in the 100m and 200m butterfly events, Alfie Workman in the 1500m freestyle, Gethin Jenks in the 400m individual medley, and Charlie Owen has qualified for the 50m Breaststroke.

Returning competitors Jess Smith, 18, Lucas Carter, 16, and Megan Watts, 16, will take to the pool in multiple events.

Fourteen-year-old Dominik Bartoletti, who trains with Swindon Dolphin but represents Repton School, has managed to secure spots in four events at the Aquatics GB Summer Championships as well as three events at the English Summer Nationals.
